A Guide to Getting Your International Driver’s Permit

Experience a new level of adventure by exploring the foreign boundaries of other countries while behind the wheel. Many visitors to a foreign nation would prefer reserve a private vehicle for their sightseeing needs than use the public transit system. However, you cannot use your Indian driver’s licence to get behind the wheel in any country that is not part of India. A valid international driver’s licence is required to drive in a great number of countries. To ensure that the authorities in other countries can understand the information on your driver’s licence from International Drivers Association, you should have an international driver’s permit (IDP) with you at all times. In the past, getting a licence that could be used in other countries was a tedious and complicated process. You’ll be happy to hear that the process of acquiring an international licence  has been updated and streamlined.

  • Let’s have a look at what has to be done in order to get an international driving licence . You may get your international driver’s licence from one of three distinct departments . Here are some of them:
  • International Association of Traffic Control Officials Regional Transport Office (RTO) Western India Automobile Association (WIAA) (ITCA)
  • Therefore, if you want to get an international driver’s licence, you may do it in one of three different ways.

Procedures for obtaining an international driver’s licence from the Regional Transport Office are as follows:

You may apply for a learner’s permit  at the RTO that issued your driver’s licence in the country. You must get a No Objection Certificate from the RTO that originally granted your licence if you want to apply to the Intensive Driver Improvement Program via a different RTO.

Form 4A (application for IDP) must be completed by the applicant, then signed and sent to the RTO.

The driver must submit Form4A together with a Form1A medical certificate from a licenced medical professional declaring that the driver is in good health and capable of safely operating a motor vehicle. A statement of eligibility is required.

If you submit the paperwork to the RTO, you’ll have to pay a fee of 1,000 rupees.

The RTO will need the following files in order to provide a driver’s licence . There must be a minimum of one additional year of validity following the submission date.

Valid Passport Size for Indian Citizens Photographs

  • Airline tickets
  • A copy of your visa, if applicable

The applicant should present both the original and the self-attested copies of the documents to the RTO office for verification.

Take a look at what has to be done in order to get a driver’s licence from the Western Indian Automobile Association (WIAA) that is recognised in many different nations.

The WIAA only approves the issuing of foreign driver’s licences in the above mentioned cities . These cities are Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Pune.

Candidate must join the WIAA to be considered for an Individual Development Plan (IDP). If you wish to join, you may do so via their website.

A completed Individual Development Plan may be submitted to the WIAA headquarters in Ahmedabad, Pune, or Mumbai after being downloaded from the internet and printed.
